Hans-Ulrich Schlumpf

Hans-Ulrich Schlumpf (born December 7, 1939 in Zurich ) is a Swiss film director .

Life

Hans-Ulrich Schlumpf was born in Zurich-Seefeld. After graduating from high school, he worked as a photographer in Paris for a year. 1963–1969 he studied art history (dissertation: A star over the city - a motif in the work of Paul Klee ). Afterwards managing director, collaboration at the Swiss Film Center and editing of the Swiss film catalog. Member of Nemo Film since 1977 .

His film congress of the penguins was described in the NZZ as one of “one of the most outstanding productions in the history of Swiss filmmaking”. He had wanted to make a film about environmental problems that was neither didactic nor moralizing, the topic that, despite his age, preoccupied him the most in 2018.

Schlumpf's estate is kept in the documentation center of the Cinémathèque suisse in Zurich.
