Otto Michael Ludwig Leichtenstern (born October 14, 1845 in Ingolstadt , † February 23, 1900 in Cologne ) was a German internist .

Life

Otto Leichtenstern was born in Ingolstadt in 1845 as the son of Captain Ludwig Leichtenstern († August 21, 1866 in Rosenberg), last lieutenant colonel in the command of the Rosenberg Fortress and his wife Franziska (Fanny) née. Seeholz.
His brother was Karl Leichtenstern (born August 29, 1847), major general, 1899-1901 commander of the 10th Royal Bavarian Infantry Brigade .

Otto Leichternstern entered the Latin School of his hometown Ingolstadt in 1856 , then studied in Würzburg and Munich and received his doctorate in Munich in 1869. After that he was assistant doctor to Karl von Pfeufer and Joseph von Lindwurm in Munich from 1869 to 1871 . In 1871 Leichtenstern was initially provisional director of the medical clinic in Tübingen and, after the death of his predecessor Felix von Niemeyer (1820–1871), director of the clinic. Here he received his habilitation in the same year . Since 1875 he was Professor eo (associate professor ) in Tübingen; In 1879 he moved to the Bürgerhospital ( Augusta Hospital ) in Cologne as senior physician in charge of the medical department . He worked here until his death in 1900. He was buried in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne . The tomb no longer exists.

His estate is in the historical archive of the city of Cologne.
