Hans Bode (chemist)

Hans Heinrich Christian Bode (born January 18, 1905 in Kiel ; † November 27, 1989 ) was a German chemist ( inorganic chemistry , electrochemistry ) and professor at the University of Hamburg .

Bode received his doctorate under Gerhard Preuner in Kiel in 1928 and was then an unscheduled and, from 1930, a scheduled assistant. In 1938 he completed his habilitation and in 1940 became senior assistant. He was drafted from 1941 and was a prisoner of war until 1946. In 1947 he became an adjunct professor in Kiel and in 1949 in Hamburg, which he remained until 1955. From 1956 he was head of the research laboratory of the accumulator factory ( Varta AG ). From 1958 he was also an honorary professor in Hamburg.

At Varta, he was involved in the development of batteries such as lead accumulators, for example with the power distribution on accumulator plates and with the nickel hydroxide electrode. Bode also dealt with fluorine chemistry.
