Hans Brei

Hans "Hansi" Brei (born November 19, 1946 ) is a former German basketball coach . He led the TSV 1880 Wasserburg women's team to six German championship titles and four cup wins.

career

In 1964, Brei came through Jörg "Joe" Prantl, the founder of the basketball department of TSV 1880 Wasserburg , at the age of 17 to his first coaching activity in the TSV youth department. During his playing career, porridge ran for Wasserburg's men's team (partly as a player-coach) and USC Munich. After studying to be a teacher in Munich, he was a lecturer in sports teacher training for the sport of basketball at the Technical University of Munich ; from 1978 he was a sports and biology teacher at the Luitpold-Gymnasium Wasserburg .

Brei has been involved in the Wasserburg youth sector for decades and has won several Bavarian championship titles with his teams. In addition, he supervised the school teams of the local Luitpold-Gymnasium (LGW) in the national competition " Youth trains for the Olympics ". In 1999 he took part in the school world championship in Jerusalem with a team from the LGW.

In 1989 he took over the post of head coach for the TSV women's team. In 1995, Brei led the team from the regional league to the 2nd Bundesliga and in 2001 to promotion to the women's basketball league , followed by the first German championship title in 2004. From 2005 to 2007 Wasserburg won three times in a row the "double" of championship title and cup victory under Breis management. Overall, the TSV won six German championships and four cup victories in the porridge era that lasted until 2012. He was twice named “Coach of the Year” in the women's Bundesliga.

After retiring as a coach in 2012, Brei Wasserburg's Bundesliga team was retained and was active in opposing scouting and as a video analyst. On the occasion of his departure in 2012, Brei was appointed the first honorary coach of the Bavarian Basketball Association.

His wife Gabriele has been the head of the basketball department at TSV Wasserburg for many years and the sports director of the Bundesliga team. In 2009 Gabriele and Hans Brei were awarded the Joseph Heiserer Medal of the city of Wasserburg for their services.
