Hans Chemin-Petit the Elder
Hans Chemin-Petit the Elder (born July 12, 1864 in Rostock , † January 11, 1917 in Potsdam ) was a German composer and conductor .
Chemin-Petit was Kapellmeister in Altenburg from 1887 to 1894 , then in Potsdam, where he founded a music school in 1900. He composed five operas and choral music.
Two operas have come down to us from his father Maurice Chemin-Petit (born March 4, 1832 in Leipzig, † April 3, 1885 in Ulm), who was Kapellmeister in Halle (Saale), Rostock and Ulm. His son Hans Helmuth Chemin-Petit was also a well-known composer.
Hans Chemin-Petit died in Potsdam in 1917 at the age of 52. His grave is in the Luisenstadt cemetery in Berlin-Kreuzberg .
