Karel Buchtela , also Karl Buchtela (born March 6, 1864 in Neupaulsdorf , Bohemia , † March 19, 1946 in Prague ) was a Czech prehistoric archaeologist .

Karel Buchtela was Chief Financial Officer and from 1924 to 1938 he was director of the State Archaeological Institute in Prague. In his research he worked with the Prague archaeologist Lubor Niederle (1855-1944). Buchtela worked as an excavator and published several specialist publications. He coined the term stitch band ceramics in 1889.
