Hans Friedrich Rohner (born May 8, 1898 in Basel , † March 20, 1972 in Zurich ) was a Swiss painter. His works include watercolors, oils, and egg tempera. He also worked intensively with wall painting and mosaics.

Life

Hans Friedrich Rohner attended the Basel School of Applied Arts from 1916 to 1920 (B. Mangold, P. Kammüller, A. Fiechter, A. Mayer). A trip through Italy followed in 1921. From 1923 to 1929 he lived and worked in Munich, where he also met his wife Lotte Kraft. Rohner temporarily attended the Knirr School with Heinrich Knirr . In 1930 he moved to Zurich, where he lived and worked until his death. During his time in Munich he made friends with Günther Frank, in whose gallery he met Ernst Ludwig Kirchner . The meeting resulted in a long-term friendship between painters. Rohner visited Kirchner every summer in Frauenkirch near Davos, Kirchner's place of residence from 1917 until his suicide in 1938. The aim of the meeting was to paint together after figures and landscapes. Together with his wife, Rohner Kirchner was happy and often available as a model. Rohner's work was not only shaped by Kirchner, but also by many artists who had emerged from the circle of the artists' association “Der Blaue Reiter”. An exhibition in the Brücke Museum in Berlin in 1999 attempted to show these influences. This fact, but also the proximity to first Ludwig Kirchner, made Rohner's works a coveted collector's item in art circles in recent years. At auctions, for example at Sotheby's Switzerland, his works are auctioned for several thousand francs.

Elegance in line, the mastery of surface and space, rhythmic subtleties as well as the proximity to P. Cézanne and Cubism characterize the extensive work of the Swiss artist.
