Hans G. Frenz

Hans G. Frenz (born March 7, 1945 in Berlin ) is a German classical archaeologist .

After attending school in Frankfurt, Frenz first studied mathematics and physics at the University of Frankfurt from 1964 before deciding to study classical archeology and ancient history . He received his doctorate in Frankfurt in 1974 under Klaus Parlasca , who had meanwhile followed a call to Erlangen . Until his retirement he worked in the editorial department of the Roman-Germanic Museum in Mainz . Frenz was treasurer of the German Archaeological Association for many years and its chairman from 1996 to 1998.

His research focuses on Roman sculpture, especially in the northern provinces of the Roman Empire .
