Hans Georg Hess

Hans Georg Heß is a former German basketball player and coach.

career

Hess played soccer and athletics before focusing on basketball. In 1968 he made the leap into the Bundesliga squad from the youth of MTV 1846 Gießen . In 1975 and 1978, the 1.88 meter tall playmaker won the German championship title with MTV, and in 1969, 1973 and 1979, Hess won the DBB Cup with the team. When he won the title in 1975, Heß was deputy team captain and in 1978 team captain. There were also European Cup appearances with Gießen and international matches with the German national team. Shortly before the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he made his international debut, but was ultimately not called into the Olympic squad. By 1977 he played in 27 international matches for the FRG.

Between 1984 and 1987 Heß was assistant trainer at MTV under Günther Lindenstruth . In 1987 the team led the male gymnasts to the playoff semifinals of the basketball Bundesliga and the final of the DBB Cup. Hess later became a coach at VfB 1900 Gießen and played in the senior division for the club and became German champion in the age group over 65.
