Hans Geulig

Hans Geulig (* 1934 in Wesseling ; † 2004 ibid) was a German painter and graphic artist of surrealism .

life and work

Born in 1934 in the Berzdorf district of Wesselingen , he first completed a manual training as a bookbinder from 1952 to 1955 . From 1962 to 1966 he completed a distance learning course with a diploma at the Ecole ABC de Dessin in Paris . After completing his studies, he devoted himself to working on monotypes from 1964 , which were strongly inspired by his role model Max Ernst , but on which he was able to develop his own style at an early age. In 1972 Geulig finally received the Max Ernst Scholarship from the city of Brühl . Geulig designed his first collages and small sculptures from 1974 . In 1979 his meditative illustrated book in between was published , provided with texts by Dr. Rainer Roeckelein. In the 1980s, Geulig devoted himself more to photography and linked it with his previous work. 1984 came to participate in the project Collected fear of Peace Research in Tübingen . Geulig donated his extensive artistic life's work to the city of Wesseling in a generous act in 2002. Since then, some of his works can be borrowed from the Wesselingen Artothek .
