Hans Henning Hellwege

Hans Henning Hellwege (born August 18, 1941 in Göttingen ) is a German pediatrician, emeritus professor for paediatrics at the University of Hamburg and former head of the pediatric intensive care unit of the children's clinic at the University Clinic Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) .

Life

Hans Henning Hellwege was born in Göttingen and attended school in Darmstadt . After graduating from high school in 1959 and studying physics for a few semesters at the University of Kiel , Hellwege studied medicine at the University of Hamburg from 1961 to 1967, which he graduated with the state examination in 1968. Hellwege also received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Hamburg in 1968/69. There he completed his habilitation, funded by the German Research Foundation DFG, in a scientific assistant position in 1980 with a subject in paediatrics.

In 1977 Henning was appointed specialist in paediatrics at the children's clinic of the University Clinic Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), and in 1978 he was promoted to senior physician there.

In 1982 Hellwege was appointed full professor of paediatrics at the University of Hamburg, combined with the position of head of the Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Care Section of the Center for Women's, Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine of the UKE with the rank of senior chief physician (head of the children's intensive care unit) .

In 2006, Hans Henning Hellwege retired and was released from the position of chief physician.
