Hans Jentzsch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Jentzsch (before 1602 - after 1633) was a Dresden councilor and mayor in the 17th century .

Life

Jentzsch came from a long-established councilor family whose members are mentioned several times in the council directory. Among other things, Hieronymus Jentzsch is mentioned as a new member of the city council in 1624. In the same year Elias Jentzsch , who later was also mayor, is named as city judge.

Hans Jentzsch joined the council in 1602 and became the ruling mayor for the first time in 1624. According to the council regulations, he held this office again in 1627 and 1630. This stipulated that all mayors remained in office for life and alternated between ruling, seated and resting mayors. It was only possible to deviate from this regulation in justified exceptional cases, due to moving away or old age. During Jentzsch's tenure, however, there must have been considerable failures in the administration of the office, so that in 1633 he was forced to resign from his position due to poor management. As compensation, he was granted an annual support payment of 150 guilders.
