Johann Konrad Nägeli (born February 22, 1768 in Zurich ; † 1828 in Wetzikon ) was a Swiss pastor , farmer and metallurgist .

Nägeli grew up as the son of pastor Hans Jakob Nägeli in Zurich. He studied theology there and was ordained in 1790. As a result, Nägeli worked as a vicar in various places , most recently with his father in Wetzikon . After his death in 1806 he succeeded him as pastor and also took over the management of the singing society and the music college .

At the beginning of his work as a choir director, Nägeli attached great importance to the training of young choir members and introduced a singing rehearsal for the confirmands before the afternoon service. During this time he was an early mentor of the later Bernese choir pioneer Johann Rudolf Weber ; Nägeli taught the Sigrist son singing and piano and later sent him to his brother Hans Georg Nägeli , with whom he had a close relationship.

Due to major crop failures in the year without the summer of 1816, Nägeli ran into financial difficulties. Since he also ran a farm and a copper mill, he was heavily overloaded. In 1817 he was given a vicar to support him because of negligent administration. Despite a successful appearance with the 60-strong music college at the Zurich Reformation Festival in 1819, Nägeli was unable to prevent the same from being dissolved in 1825. In 1828 Nägeli died unmarried. His successor was Jakob Christoph Hug (1776–1855), who in 1807 bought the badly running music shop from his brother Hans Georg and later quarreled with him.
