Shantha Mayan Dunne

Shantha Mayadunne ( Sinhala : ශාන්තා මායාදුන්නේ, died on April 21, 2019 in Colombo ) was a Sri Lankan cook and non-fiction author , who gained notoriety through her TV appearances. She and her daughter Nisanga are among the victims of the bomb attacks in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday 2019 .

life and work

Shantha Mayadunne learned to cook and bake in a variety of countries including Australia , the United Kingdom , India , Singapore and Thailand . She received a diploma from the Wilton School of Cake Making and Decorating in Chicago . She is considered Sri Lanka's television pioneer in culinary matters. She was the first in Sri Lanka to host live cooking shows, the first to run mass cooking workshops (from 1994), and the first Sri Lankan to produce web-based cooking classes. She published two cookbooks. She was best known for quick and easy recipes. She taught beginners and advanced learners and gave lessons in cake design as well as Indian and Chinese cuisine.

She and her daughter nisanga died on the morning of April 21, 2019 Shangri-La Hotel from Colombo by a bomb attack of a suicide bomber. Shortly before the attack, the daughter posted a family picture at the Easter meal . Nisanga studied at the University of London .
