Hans Laffers

Hans Laffers , also Lafferdes, Lafferd, Laffert, Löffert ( bl. 1615-1625) was a German mint master .

Life

Nothing is known about Laffer's origins and training. From 1615 to 1617 he was the mint master of the imperial city of Goslar . Laffers is also mentioned in Clausthal in 1617 and worked as a mint master in Zellerfeld and Goslar from 1619 to 1625 .

On February 4, 1622 there was an uprising in Goslar under the leadership of the Leineweber against the city regiment in connection with the rise in the prices of the " Kipper and Wipper time " , which could be mediated at the last moment, but attacks against the Münzer and the Jews led. Laffers was charged with unreliability and corruption, which led to the fact that he was repeatedly threatened with dismissal. On March 20, 1625 he was deposed as mint master.

The ducal government of the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel raised a demand of 1000 thalers against him. Since he was unable to raise the required bail, he was to be arrested. He escaped this arrest by fleeing to the imperial city of Goslar. No further information is known.
