Hans Luder (born March 9, 1913 in Solothurn ; † May 1, 1997 in Basel ) was a Swiss architect and master builder of Solothurn and cantonal master builder in Basel .

Life and work

After studying architecture and graduating from the ETH in Zurich near Salvisberg , he worked in Salvisberg's office until 1946, which was led by Roland Rohn after Salvisberg's death . In addition, he also ran his own office in Solothurn, where he was able to realize his own designs and achieved competitive successes. In 1946 he was elected city architect in Solothurn. He held this office until 1961. In this function he was a member of the commission from 1947 to 1958 involved in the creation of the canton's inventory of historical monuments and was responsible for enforcing the then new Jura protection zone . In 1961 he was appointed cantonal master builder in Basel and stayed there until his retirement in 1978. Luder also designed buildings in his public offices and did not limit himself to supervising the awarding of building projects. "Architecture as a form of social behavior" was his concern, in which "content becomes spatial form".
