Société des observateurs de l'homme
The Société des observateurs de l'homme , in German translation Society of People Watchers , was a French learned society . It was founded in Paris in 1799 , which is why the city is considered the place where French anthropology was founded . In 1804 , the Société des observateurs de l'homme dissolved again.
history
The Société de l'homme des observateurs was founded by Roch-Ambroise Cucurron Sicard , Louis-François Jauffret and Joseph de Maimieux . The lack of archives and the short period of their existence make the document situation and historical processing more difficult. Only a few documents are guaranteed, such as the processing of the Victor von Aveyron case by Jean Itard and the Baudin expedition by Nicolas Baudin himself.
In August of the year it was founded, the Society met for the first time in Paris on the Rue de Seine for its constitutional meeting.
Researches
A broad field of scientific questions was dealt with, such as topics from linguistics , medicine, lifestyles and cultural forms , but also questions from deaf and dumb pedagogy were represented. The attempt was made to grasp the human being in its entirety with all its different aspects.
The aim was to find an order or a system in which the most diverse people could be captured in all their cultural, but also healthy and pathological forms. In a sense, they were looking for a theory that would allow the unification of the human sciences.
