Louis-François Jauffret
Louis-François Jauffret (* 1770 in La Roquebrussanne , † 1840 in Marseille ) was a French anthropologist , educator, historian and poet.
Life
He is known for being the founder of the first scientific organization to practice anthropology.
From 1796 he published popular magazines for children and young people in French, English and many other languages.
In 1799 he founded the Société des Observateurs de l'homme with a group of friends . It was here that the knowledge of the importance of language for anthropological studies matured, something Wilhelm von Humboldt also played a part in.
