Mathieu-Antoine Bouchaud

Mathieu-Antoine Bouchaud (born April 16, 1719 in Paris , † February 1, 1804 ) was a French lawyer, economist and encyclopaedist .

Live and act

He was the son of a lawyer at the court in Paris, conseils à Paris and on his mother's side the nephew of Pierre Gassendi . Orphaned at sixteen, he studied law , following the advice of two uncles. In 1747 he was promoted to Doctor iurisprudentiae .

Through his enthusiasm for music, he met his first wife, an Italian singer. In 1752 his wife died and he did not remarry until 1772, a Demoiselle de Fer. He was in correspondence with Claude-Emmanuel de Pastoret and Georges Cuvier and was a member of the Société des observateurs de l'homme .

In 1774 he was appointed Professor of Law, Droit de la Nature et des Gens at the Collège de France .

For the Encyclopédie by Denis Diderot and Jean-Baptiste le Rond d'Alembert , he wrote an article on the terms Articles , Concile , Décret and Décrétales dans l'Encyclopédie .

Bouchard was an honorary member of the Académie d'Arras .
