Hans Neuhoff
Hans Neuhoff (* 1959 in Bonn ) is a German cultural sociologist and musicologist . Since 2004 he has held the professorship for sociology and psychology of music at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . Neuhoff has also been politically active as a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) since 2017 .
Life
After a musical training ( violin and tabla ) in Germany and India, Neuhoff studied musicology with Carl Dahlhaus and Helga de la Motte-Haber at the Technical University of Berlin and Indian philology at the Free University of Berlin . From 1991 to 1993 he was a doctoral fellow of studienstiftung and received his doctorate in 1994 with a dissertation on the Indian Raga system. From 1996 to 2002 he worked as a research assistant at the Technical University of Berlin and completed his habilitation there in 2004 with the thesis “Concert attendance and social structure” for the subjects of cultural sociology and musicology. In the same year he was offered a professorship for systematic musicology at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. The handbook of music sociology published by Neuhoff together with Helga de la Motte-Haber is so far the only German-language work on this subject.
In addition to music sociology and music psychology , his fields of work also include empirical rhythm research and music ethnology . Neuhoff received project funding from the German Research Foundation, the Fritz Thyssen Foundation and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, among others . As a curator, he has also designed and organized cross-cultural music and dance projects with artists from India, the Middle East, African and European countries for over 20 years.
In 2015 Neuhoff was a participant in a conference on world music and immigration cultures . Among other things, he called for German-born artists with a migration background to be given equal opportunities in musical training and career choice. Cultural exchange is important.
Nevertheless, Neuhoff advocates the concept of a German or European leading culture. Leading culture means that in situations of culturally determined conflicts of values and norms, the values and norms of a certain culture have priority. In this respect, the concept of a German (European) leading culture has no universal claim to validity.
Neuhoff is also an expert in broadcasts in the public media on issues relating to music taste and reception.
Political commitment
Neuhoff joined the AfD in 2017. He is deputy spokesman for the AfD district association Bonn, board member (assessor) of the AfD district association Cologne, member of the AfD federal technical committee 12 (immigration, asylum, citizenship) and the corresponding state committee in North Rhine-Westphalia. The board of directors of the AfD state association in North Rhine-Westphalia under Rüdiger Lucassen also appointed Neuhoff chairman of the program commission for North Rhine-Westphalia in October 2019 and at the same time sent him to the party's federal program commission as a representative of the state association. Neuhoff is also a member of the board of trustees of the party - affiliated Desiderius Erasmus Foundation and also regularly advocates for the parliamentary group of the AfD NRW as an expert at hearings.
His areas of work are:
- Demography, migration, asylum law, social and cultural change
- European Union / European Policy
- Globalization, "Brain Drain, Brain Gain"
- International relations, political theory (especially neo-realism)
- Development policy
- Religious politics
Neuhoff considers the most important political task to be the renegotiation of the European treaties with the aim of dismantling and restructuring the Union, in particular the return of sovereign powers to the member states, a revision of the Schengen Borders Code and the downgrading of the European Court of Justice. Neuhoff also calls for consistent protection of the EU's external borders by Frontex in conjunction with the competent authority of the respective member state, as well as control of the German state borders by the federal police to prevent secondary migration and the fight against organized crime and international terrorism.
He is also a signatory of the 2018 Joint Declaration against Illegal Mass Immigration.
Private
Neuhoff is married and has two children. His wife is from Burkina Faso .
