IC 3311 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SD in the constellation Virgo the north ecliptic , the estimated 9 million light-years from the Milky Way 's center. The galaxy is listed under catalog number VCC 809 as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 4351 , IC 3291 , IC 3315 , IC 3349 are located in the same area of the sky .
The Type Ic supernova SN 2004gk was observed here.
