Hans Richtscheid (born January 17, 1907 in Mainz , † January 27, 1992 there ) was a German writer and philosopher .

Life

Richtscheid first studied law before he met one of his old teachers as a trainee lawyer and philosophical conversations developed between the two. The sudden accidental death of the teacher makes it clear to him the importance of the encounter for his future life. Richtscheid is now studying philosophy at Ludwigsuniversität in Gießen and graduating in 1935 with a dissertation on the problem of philosophical skepticism .

He finds his first job after graduation at the CH Beck publishing house in Munich. There he works as a lecturer, benefiting from his knowledge of law. Richtscheid founds the Beck'sche Black Row ; it deals with the existential questions of our time. The Black Series became a forum for many distinguished authors.

In Conversations with Socrates and The Legacy of Socrates , Richtscheid shows an exemplary way of meeting with descriptions of walks through the old rose garden in Mainz , letters on the traces of Goethe's Italian trip and conversations and small incidents with the retired teacher, who is nicknamed Socrates with philosophy. The fictional narrator of the story is a civil servant from the educated middle class and holds conversations about the classical period, Goethe , Nietzsche , God and the world, the latter especially about the old Mainz and the Rheingau .

In 1983, long after his retirement, Richtscheid returned to Mainz. He lived in his parents' house in the Lauterenviertel . He describes his memoirs about captivity in France in 1984 in the book: The truth is personal .
