Hans Rogler

Hans Rogler was a German farmer .

Rogler is said to have been the first German farmer to plant potatoes in the ground in 1647 . This is said to have happened in the village of Pilgramsreuth near the town of Rehau , where a memorial for him stands today. Rogler himself received the tubers in Roßbach (today the Czech Republic ) from relatives, who in turn are said to have received them from a Dutch soldier .
