Hans Weiss-Steinberg

Hans Weiß-Steinberg (actually Hans Weiß ; born May 9, 1927 in Pohlheim , † January 8, 2003 ibid) was a German choir director and composer.

Life

Weiß-Steinberg graduated from high school in Gießen in 1946 and then studied piano, composition, choir and orchestral conducting as well as singing. In the course of his career he conducted various successful choirs and performed with them in Germany, Europe and Canada. Weiß was a prizewinner and juror at numerous choir competitions in Germany and abroad and also worked as a Hessian representative at the Association of German Professional Choir Directors.

He died in Pohlheim in 2003. He was married to Meta Weiß. In 2008 the large hall of the Pohlheim Volkshalle was renamed "Hans-Weiß-Saal" in his honor.

Weiss' compositional work includes v. a. Choral literature, including cantatas, psalm settings, new sacred songs and folk song arrangements.
