The Hansa Mare Reederei GmbH & Co. KG is a shipping company founded in 1993 with headquarters in Bremen .
Companies
The main business area of the Hansa Mare Reederei is container shipping, the chartering of its own ships to large liner shipping companies, as well as ship investments and financing. The company operates chartering, crew and technical ship management and the issuance of ship shares for new ships.
The company was founded in 1992/93 in equal parts by Harro G. Kniffka and Jens Meier-Hedde, who both acted as managing directors with equal rights. Kniffka had previously worked for shipping companies in New York and Hamburg for several decades, and Meier-Hedde was the managing partner of the key shipping company .
From 1993 to the end of 2000, the company expanded its fleet to a size of twenty ships with a total capacity of 56,873 TEU. Until then, 391 million euros of capital had been placed in the investment market. At the end of 2000, Kniffka gave up his position as managing director, but remained a 50% partner. The expansion of the fleet was then stopped, the care of the investors was then continued by Hansa Mare, the chartering of the existing ships by a company Kniffkas and the ship management by the key shipping company. At the end of August 2008, the second founder, Meier-Hedde, also left the company. After part of the ship inventory had been sold in the meantime, the shipping company still had eight Panmax container ships in 2012 with a total slot capacity of 32,202 TEU. Around 270 seafarers were employed on the ships of the fleet. In addition, other employees came ashore. Parts of the ship operation were carried out by the 50% shareholders through Hanseatic Lloyd Holding and Schlüssel Reederei.
After the ship portfolio has been sold in the meantime, the shipping company no longer has any ships in 2018 and is in liquidation.
