The Mare Britannicum was a full container ship built in 2000 .

history

The ship was built in 2000 under the hull number 1266 at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea, for the Bremen-based Hansa Mare shipping company . The keel was laid on July 3rd, the launch on December 1st of that year. The ship was completed on December 27, 2000.

Stranded in 2005

On December 25, 2005, the ship ran aground as APL Panama on the Mexican Pacific coast near the city of Ensenada . There were 1,805 containers on board  . The ship, which was only slightly damaged, was recovered by the US salvage company Titan Salvage and made afloat again by March 10, 2006.

In December 2016 the ship was renamed Rita and registered in the Comoros . In early 2017, the Rita was stranded and scrapped in Chittagong .

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by a two-stroke, nine-cylinder diesel engine made by Sulzer , which was built under license by Hyundai Heavy Industries. The engine's output is 36,450  kW . The engine acts on a fixed propeller .

Two generators with an apparent power of 2,213 kVA each  and one generator with an apparent power of 1,975 kVA are available for the power supply. In addition, an emergency generator with an apparent power of 188 kVA was installed.

The container capacity is 4,038  TEU . There are 430 connections for refrigerated containers. The containers can be loaded in twelve 40-foot bays in front of and four 40-foot bays behind the deckhouse, with space for up to 13 containers side by side. There is a breakwater in front of the first bay.
