Hanseatic Help

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hanseatic Help is an aid association that has been supporting people in need since autumn 2015, donating clothing and other everyday items free of charge to refugees, homeless people, women's shelters, children's homes and other non-profit organizations in Hamburg and other federal states. However, the association not only supplies around 150 facilities for those in need in Hamburg, but also delivers relief goods in crisis regions such as Syria and Northern Iraq . The club's motto is "just do it".

In August 2015, a call for donations in kind for refugees was published in a Hamburg newspaper. The call was so successful that a Hamburg exhibition hall was set up as a temporary warehouse. Suitcases, bags and boxes full of clothes, shoes, bed linen and toiletries were donated and sorted for the city's initial reception centers. The non-profit association Hanseatic Help was founded in October 2015 as a basis for creating a fixed framework for volunteer work.

Providing refugees in Hamburg with clothing, shoes and hygiene items was just the beginning. The project grew rapidly, so that soon not only refugees but also those in need could be cared for in many other facilities in and around Hamburg.

After the Hamburg exhibition halls had to be put back to their actual use, Hanseatic Help moved to Hamburg-Bramfeld in December 2015, initially temporarily and in April 2016 to the current location in Hamburg-Altona .

Fields of activity

In addition to supplying various organizations across Hamburg, entire container loads of clothing and shoes that are donated but currently not needed are delivered to crisis areas: Ukraine , Syria, Haiti , Samos , Greece or Northern Iraq.

Actions

  • Many people leave their tents, sleeping mats and sleeping bags on the site after attending the festival. Hanseatic Help collects these aid items, cleans them and then passes them on to those in need.
  • Relief supplies that cannot be used directly at the Hamburg base are delivered to crisis areas by truck and container.
  • The wave of refugees in Germany was reported on Australian television. An entrepreneur then donated 60,000 winter jackets to Hanseatic Help for distribution across Germany.
  • Under the motto “Idomeni is everywhere”, truck transports with relief supplies were delivered to the refugee camp in Greece.
  • Hanseatic Help is in contact with other organizations in order to support them with relief supplies (for example the clothing store in the seaman's mission Duckdalben )
