Hansjoachim Hackbarth

Hansjoachim Hackbarth (* 1949 ) is a German veterinarian. University professor and head of the institute for animal welfare and behavior (pets, laboratory animals and horses) at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover .

Life

Hackbarth studied veterinary medicine in Berlin , Gießen and Hanover from 1971 to 1975 , and completed his postgraduate studies in laboratory animal science at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover in 1977 with a doctorate . From 1977 to 1991 he was a scientific assistant in the central animal laboratory of the Hannover Medical School . In 1985 he completed his habilitation . In 1991 Hackbarth was appointed C3 professor and head of the Institute for Laboratory Animal Science at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1996 he returned to the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover as C3 professor for animal welfare and behavior. Hackbarth has been a full professor there since 2000 at the Institute for Animal Welfare and Behavior (pets, laboratory animals and horses) and head of the animal welfare center.
