Hanson Ridge is a prominent mountain ridge on the Scott coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It rises 5 km northwest of the Spike Cape in the middle of the Wilson Piedmont Glacier .
In maps of the Terra Nova Expedition (1910-1913) it is recorded as Black Ridge . However, since this name has already been taken for another formation in Victoria Land, the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1964 after the American meteorologist Kirby Julian Hanson (1929-2006), who was active in 1958 at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station .
