Hanspeter Dickel

Hanspeter Dickel (* 1945 in Gronau ) is a German author of historical and regional books.

Life

Dickel completed his secondary school leaving certificate in Gronau and then attended the commercial college in Rheine. As a bass player and organizer, he was already a member of the successful Gronau beat band "The Lightnings" at that time . After training as a social worker in Bochum and a year of recognition in Schwelm, he had the general university entrance qualification.

From 1970 to 1986 he lived in West Berlin and studied geography, geology and biology at the Free University . After completing his legal traineeship at the Albert Einstein Gymnasium in Britz, he advanced to the position of study assessor. Dickel became a research associate at the Free University of Berlin at the Eastern Europe Institute, Regional Studies Department. At the same time he was a long-time member of the "Theater group in the Philippikeller" in Charlottenburg. 1982 was editor and co-author of the local monograph "Nature and Culture of the Gronau and Epe Area" , a work with a removable atlas.

From 1986 to 1988 Dickel worked as a research assistant at the city of Rhede and was involved in preparing the Museum of Medicine and Pharmacy History. After the publication of the “Atlas for Rhede” he was in charge of the West Munsterland field names project for Gronau and Epe (original cadastre and current names). From 1991 to 2006 he was head of the Gronau City Archives.

Dickel has been a freelance writer for more than 30 years, and since 1989 also as a publisher and designer of cultural events. He is the founder and editor of the "Bürgerbuch Gronau und Epe" (since 1990, 17th year 2008) and the "Schriften aus dem Stadtarchiv Gronau" (12 volumes, 1995–2005), editor and / or editor of another 14 books, primarily to socio-cultural and urban history topics. He published more than 250 specialist articles, in particular on the historical geography of the border area. His work focuses on the development of the cultural landscape, cartography and the cooperative credit system. He produced photographic works on selected natural and cultural topics in Germany and Europe, especially lighthouses. So far he has published more than 600 motifs (art cards, photo cards, bookmarks). Dickel is the initiator and moderator of the "Readings in the Gronau Water Tower", which has been offered since 1994. So far, 36 readings with almost 70 authors or groups have taken place.
