The Hanwha Eagles ( Korean 한화 이글스 ), officially known as the Hanwha Eagles Professional Baseball Club ( 한화 이글스 프로 야구단 ), are a South Korean professional baseball club based in Daejeon . The club is a member of the KBO League , the highest South Korean baseball league. Home stadium is the Daejeon Hanbat Baseball Stadium . 1985 as "Binggrae Eagles", they made their debut in 1986 as the league's seventh franchise. In 1993 the name was changed to Hanwha Eagles. The owner Hanwha is one of the largest Korean industrial conglomerates, the so-called Jaebol .
The Eagles could only win the Korean Series , the Korean championship series, once in 1999. So far (as of 2019) they have participated in the playoffs 13 times and ended up in second place five times. The team was known for its exceptionally high slugging percentage in the late 1990s and early 2000s , which in 1999 reached .484, the highest value in KBO League history. The Eagles have awarded three retired numbers, more than any other team in the KBO League.
