Harald Kollegger

Harald Kollegger (born March 14, 1955 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian neurologist and writer .

life and work

Harald Kollegger grew up in the Mürz Valley, graduated from the BRG in Mürzzuschlag and completed his studies in human medicine at the University of Graz in 1981. Between 1976 and 1979 he was co-editor of the literary magazine Nebelhorn and student representative for the List of Independent Physicians. From 1979 to 1981 he studied sociology. Between 1984 and 1989 he completed his specialist training in neurology and psychiatry at the University of Vienna. He then worked as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Biochemistry, Trinity College Dublin until December 1991, and completed his habilitation in clinical neurology in 1993 (monograph Excitatory Amino Acids and Brain Damage (Facultas Verlag 1993, ISBN 3-85076-331-5 )) . From 1994 to 2005 he headed the multiple sclerosis outpatient clinic and the research laboratory of the University Clinic for Neurology in Vienna and completed several additional training courses, including neurolinguistic programming, scientific writing and traditional Chinese medicine. Since 2008 he has been head of the polyneuropathy outpatient department at the Vienna General Hospital. His scientific Œvre includes 43 original articles on the chemoarchitecture of the brain, cerebrovascular diseases and multiple sclerosis, 15 review articles on CSF diagnostics, posturography, viscometry and neuro-AIDS, as well as 10 articles in neurological textbooks. In 2001 his novel Sommerholz was published by Haymon Verlag Innsbruck. Since then, Harald Kollegger has worked as an essayist, poet and novelist and has published articles on ORF, in anthologies and for the Allegro Vivo music festival and the Giro d'Arte artists' association (Giro catalog of works at www.bankl.at). He has been a board member of the Austrian PEN Club since 2011 and its vice-president since April 2015. Harald Kollegger lives in Vienna-Ottakring and is the father of two adult sons.
