The Harburg , formerly also known as Haarburg or Hardenberg , is an abandoned medieval hilltop castle near Wernigerode in the Harz Mountains in Saxony-Anhalt .
Nothing remains of the castle, which was built around 1150. The remains of the castle hill with a castle square measuring 16 by 52 meters can now be found at its previous location. On the Burgstall there is an excursion restaurant that was reopened in summer 2018.
A Bismarck memorial stood on the Harburg grounds until 1956 .
