Hard Literature Prize

The Harder Literature Prize has been announced by the Bodenseegemeinde Hard ( Vorarlberg ) since 1982 and has been awarded every three years until 2012 and every two years since then. It is considered to be the oldest and most traditional literary prize in Vorarlberg.

The literary prize is endowed with 5,000 euros (main prize) and twice 1,000 euros (sponsorship prizes). Up to 2003 texts of various literary genres received awards, since 2006 only short stories (maximum 10 manuscript pages) have received awards. 484 entries were submitted for the 2012 competition. The theme for the 10th Harder Literature Prize was "Don't trust anyone over 30" and referred to the phrase from the 1960s and the fact that the Harder Literature Prize was advertised for the first time in 1982, thirty years earlier. The 11th Harder Literature Prize 2014 was announced for stories on the topic “Nothing new in the West?”, Which was chosen on the occasion of the commemoration of the beginning of the First World War 100 years ago. The 12th Harder Literature Prize 2016 had the theme window to the courtyard, the 13th Literature Prize 2018 the theme “Happiness Is a Warm Gun in Your Hand”, the 14th Literature Prize 2020 “Am Wasser”.
