Hari Merdeka

Hari Kemerdekaan is the Malay word for Independence Day . Malaysia gained independence on August 31, 1957 after being a British colony . Merdeka, as the holiday is also known for short, is celebrated all over Malaysia. The celebrations are especially big in Kuala Lumpur , where Independence Day is greeted at midnight with large fireworks and later celebrated with all kinds of parades .
