Harold Gomes
Harold Gomes (born August 22, 1933 in Providence , Rhode Island , USA ) is a former American boxer in the super feather and featherweight division and world champion.
Career
The left wingman was able to make his first 22 fights victorious. In 1956 he won the USA New England featherweight title. At the end of June 1959 he won this title in super featherweight. Just three weeks later, he defeated Paul Jorgensen on points, securing both the universal and the NBA world championship in super featherweight. He lost this belt on March 16 the following year to Flash Elorde through a classic knockout.
Gomes also lost the direct rematch against Elorde, which took place in August of the same year, through a classic knockout. Gomes lost his last four fights, three of which took place in 1963.
