Harpalus flavescens , also known as the yellow fast runner , is a beetle in the family of ground beetles (Carabidae).

features

The monochrome yellow-brown beetles are 11–13 mm long. Their anterior tibiae are truncated obliquely at the end. The row of thorns on the underside of the anterior tibia merges continuously into the row of prapical thorns at their tip. Both the elytra and the top of the tarsi are bald. The front of the prosternum has no protruding bristles. The pronotum is narrowed towards the back. He also has sharp back angles. The base of the pronotum is more or less completely punctured.

distribution

The occurrence of Harpalus flavescens ranges from Central Europe through Eastern Europe to the Caucasus . In the north, the occurrence extends to southern Sweden and southern Finland.

Way of life

The psammophilic , hidden beetle species is bound to dry sandy habitats. These can be open sand areas, sand corridors or dry sand grassland biotopes, such as those found on coastal and inland dunes, but also in heathland or in sand pits. There the beetles occur especially on the edge of sandy pine forests and in dry forest clearings. The beetles are usually seen from June to September.
