The Harpstedter Niederungsburg is a hill fort in Harpstedt in the Lower Saxon district of Oldenburg , which was probably built in the 10th or 11th century . Written documents about the time and the background of the creation are not known.
location
The facility is located about 350 m southeast of the Amtshof von Harpstedt and about 100 m east of the Delme on the street Tielingskamp . It has been included in the series of archaeological adventure routes in the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park .
construction
An inner ditch with a width of up to 6.5 m and a depth of 1.30 m lines the plateau of the castle (diameter: about 15 m). This trench is followed by an up to 3 m wide dam, which in turn is enclosed by a 6 to 10 m wide and about 1 m deep trench. In the north there is a basin in which there is still water today when it has rained a lot. There are no traces of the building itself. In all likelihood, the castle was built as a half-timbered building. At the time of its creation, a palisade was probably built along the castle plateau. It can also be assumed that bridges or at least footbridges were built to cross the trenches.
