history

Erlander and Khrushchev (1964)

Harpsund was first mentioned in 1380. Several buildings date from the 17th century. 1784-1899 the estate was owned by the aristocratic Sparre dynasty . The two-storey main building was demolished in 1914 due to dilapidation and rebuilt in the Karolinska style by Otar Hökerberg . In 1952 it was bequeathed to the state by Carl-August Wicander . Outbuildings were converted for conferences. Since then, the mansion has been used for informal meetings between government, industry and social institutions. Since 1995 it has been classified as Byggnadsminne .

Prime Minister Tage Erlander invited General Secretary Nikita Khrushchev to a boat party in 1964 ; Fredrik Reinfeldt rowed with Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2008 . In 2014, Reinfeld, Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte met there. In all cases memorable photographs were taken.
