Harry G. Levine

Harry Gene Levine (* 1945 ) is an American sociologist . He is one of the representatives of social science addiction research .

Levine is Professor of Sociology at Queens College, City University of New York . He received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley , and his bachelor's degree from Brandeis University . In research and teaching he is dedicated to drug policy in a historical context. He problematized that in connection with marijuana possession and trafficking in New York, disproportionately more young African American and Lations were persecuted and convicted than young whites, even though they had used less marijuana than the comparison group of whites.
