Harry Hemley Plaskett

Harry Hemley Plaskett (born July 5, 1893 in Toronto , † January 26, 1980 ) was a Canadian astronomer. His father was the astronomer John Stanley Plaskett .

Plaskett was Savilian Professor of Astronomy at the University of Oxford from 1932 to 1960 . In 1930 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , in 1963 he was awarded the gold medal of the Royal Astronomical Society . Since 1925 he was a fellow of the American Physical Society .

His research areas were solar physics, astronomical spectroscopy and spectrophotometry.

The asteroid (2905) Plaskett has been named after him and his father since 1984 .
