Hartmut Siemes

Hartmut Siemes (born November 2, 1937 in Remscheid ) is a German neuropediatrist and epileptologist .

Life

Siemes initially completed his school education with the secondary school leaving certificate and after an apprenticeship worked as a chemical laboratory assistant in a chemical plant. At the same time, he made up his Abitur in an evening school and then studied medicine in Göttingen and Berlin from 1961. There he began in 1969 as a research assistant at the University Children's Clinic of the Free University of Berlin in the Kaiserin Augusta Viktoria Haus (KAVH) with his further training as a pediatrician. He received his doctorate in 1970 with a thesis on urine screening for congenital metabolic diseases with hyperaminoaciduria, which was essential for the establishment of a separate department for metabolic diseases at the KAVH. After completing his further training as a pediatrician, he turned to neuropediatrics and worked as a senior physician in the Department of Pediatric Neurology (at Folker Hanefeld ) until 1981 . After receiving an assistant professorship for pediatrics at the Free University of Berlin in 1974, Siemes completed his habilitation in 1976 on the CSF protein picture of children with inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system. This made it a reference address for CSF examinations for these diseases for a long time

From 1981 to 1984, Siemes was a senior physician at the University Children's Clinic at the Ruhr University Bochum , where he was in charge of the neuropediatrics department, before he became the provisional director of the Pediatric IV Department, which was orphaned after the move from Hanefeld to Göttingen until Dieter Scheffner was appointed, from 1985 to 1986 Focus on neurology at the University Children's Hospital of the Free University of Berlin.

From 1986 to 2001, Siemes was the chief physician of the children's clinic of the Sisterhood of the German Red Cross (DRK) in Berlin, the former Rittberg Hospital, which later moved to Charlottenburg in the Westend. Even after that he was still active in child epileptology, from 1999 to 2005 as a consulting doctor in the Hohenstücke specialist clinic, a rehabilitation clinic for children and adolescents in Brandenburg an der Havel, and to this day in a Berlin practice for pediatrics and child and adolescent psychiatry
