history
Harvard Bioscience was founded in 1901 by William T. Porter. Due to his own negative experiences, his goal was to manufacture medical equipment and scientific instruments of high quality. The production was initially located in the basement of the Harvard Medical School . Porter later founded the American Journal of Physiology and became a major physiologist of his time.
The devices became known worldwide under the name Harvard Apparatus , which was also the original company name. The company was renamed Harvard Bioscience in 2000. The Harvard Apparatus brand was outsourced to a wholly-owned subsidiary of the same name. There is a license agreement with Harvard University for the use of the Harvard brand name .
The company grew through the acquisition of other manufacturers of research equipment such as B. Multi Channel Systems (2014) and HEKA (2015).
