Harvey Arden

Harvey Arden (born September 25, 1935 ) is an American documentary author who has written articles for National Geographic Magazine for many years .

Life

Arden was a writer for the National Geographic Society for 23 years . He also wrote books in which he reports on his encounters with extraordinary people in order to record their stories, their legacies and their insights or messages for posterity. He traveled with Steve Wall through North America for several years to interview the elders of some Indian tribes and to gather their knowledge. Together they edited several books.

Arden wrote mostly socially critical reports such as about Leonard Peltier , an Indian activist of the American Indian Movement and the time he has to spend in prison, which also includes drawings and paintings that were created within the prison. Arden campaigned for his release and, together with Peltier, wrote the book My Life is My Sun Dance . In particular, he wrote articles on topics that affected the indigenous peoples such as The Two Souls of Peru but also articles such as The living dead sea for the National Geographic Magazine . He also traveled to Australia to report on the Aborigines and their stories about the dreamtime in his book Dreamkeepers .
