The Hasselfurter Weiher ( French étang de Hasselfurth or étang de Hasselfurt ) is a reservoir about 3 kilometers south of Bitsch ( Bitscher Land ) in the Grand Est region , at just under 300  m above sea level. NN .

description

The shoreline is almost 1.3 km, the water surface about 37,000 m², the water catchment area about 5.7 km². It is traversed by the upper reaches of the Hornbach . It belongs to the community and is freely accessible.

The lake is almost completely surrounded by forest. It was created as a reservoir by the nearby Augustinian convent Collège St. Augustin . From 1924 it served as a bathing lake for the monastery school, which at the time of its expansion in 1924 had only completely inadequate sanitary facilities with a bathroom including a bathtub for 250 students, because washing in the bedrooms below the belt was prohibited under threat of punishment. In their spare time, the students set up swimming pontoons for changing clothes and washing themselves.

Todays situation

The pond is embedded in an extensive local recreation area with bathing areas, hiking trails and an excursion restaurant. For several years there has been an adventure course in the immediate vicinity in the forest.
