Hasso Viebig
Hasso Viebig (born May 21, 1914 in Neubrandenburg ; † September 16, 1993 ) was a German brigadier general in the Bundeswehr .
Life
Viebig had been a professional soldier since 1934 and went as Major i. G. and Ia on the staff of LXXXIV. Army Corps end of August 1944 at Falaise in captivity .
In the Bundeswehr he was press chief at the BMVg and retired as a brigadier general.
In the news magazine Der Spiegel (No. 23/2019), intercepted conversations between Hasso Viebig and former comrades are quoted by the US military, which suggest the suspicion that Viebig, then appointed major, was involved in war crimes against the Allies on the French Atlantic coast during the landing of the Allies US soldiers were involved: “(...) Someone in the back started waving a white flag on a stick. We then put it down to 100 m. With a white flag, you know, that didn't suit us, they should have shot us to death. "
