It was launched in 2017 by the non-governmental organizations Campact and Fearless Democracy . As it sees itself, the organization educates people about the dangers to democracy and freedom of expression that affect society as a whole .

aims

HateAid sees itself as a counseling and contact point for victims of digital violence . The organization offers victims of hate speech an initial emotional stabilizing consultation and, if necessary, legal costs financing. Through a fund to finance litigation costs, she conducts civil litigation against Internet bullying on behalf of those affected. She would like to finance further litigation through the claims for damages and donations.

Clients

In July 2019, Renate Künast was represented by Hate Aid before the Berlin Regional Court in order to obtain user data from Facebook. The aim was to determine the identity of the authors of suspected criminal hate comments in order to be able to file criminal charges afterwards. The application was rejected in September 2019.

background

According to media attorney Jony Eisenberg , the political goal in the Künast case is to tighten the Network Enforcement Act .

The establishment of HateAid was supported by the Robert Bosch Stiftung .
