Pile (unit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The heap was a measure of firewood , peat and coal in Prussian Berlin and in Petersburg only for firewood.

In Berlin the sale to Haufen had already been banned by an ordinance of June 13, 1846. Only the newer weights and measures should be used. The measure was again banned emphatically, as dealers reduced the mass, as a revision in 1847 showed. The announcement of the police chief of December 9, 1847 was understood as a readmission, as there was no evidence of a ban. On January 25, 1848, trading in heaps was criminalized but ignored by traders.

Hard coals

firewood

This cubic fathom was 108 cubic feet, or 97.4089 Parisian cubic inches or 4.4518815 stere.

peat

  • 1 pile of peat = 5 measuring baskets (large) = 240 measuring baskets (small) = 6000 pieces of peat sod
  • 1 large measuring basket = 1000 pieces of peat sod
  • 1 small measuring basket = 25 peat sods
  • In Bremen 1 pile = 8 peat sods

Petersburg

The firewood was sold either by the Kubik-Saschehn or by heaps.

  • 1 pile had the height of 1 saschehn, a width of 1 saschehn and in spite of the variable log length at least 10 Werschok. This resulted in 2.0234 cubic meters, or a pile of 6.625 cubic arsins. The heap was 5 ⅝ cubic archin or 5/24 cubic sarschehn
