The 14 missiles - / Torpedo fast boats of Hauk class were asked from 1979 to 1980 in service. They form the coastal defense flotilla of the Norwegian Navy and are tasked with protecting the rugged coast of Norway. Hauk means " hawk " in Norwegian .
The Hauk class has been modernized several times, most recently in 2004. Three heavy machine guns and two Mistral anti-aircraft missiles were also on board, they are now equipped with improved radio data systems, the Penguin missiles have been upgraded and the navigation system has been modernized. Today they are also known as "Super-Hauks" and are expected to remain in service until 2015. The boats are grouped into two squadrons (21st and 22nd). The prototype of the new Skjold class is currently being tested in the 21st Schnellbootgeschwader . Five boats are not currently in active service.
In 2003 the Royal Norwegian Navy stationed four Hauk boats of the 21st Schnellbootgeschwader in Cadiz, Spain, for anti-terror patrol as part of the Active Endeavor campaign on the Strait of Gibraltar .
Since 2006, the four boats of the 22nd speedboat squadron have been in use for the UNIFIL II mission off the coast of Lebanon.
