Location of Oschätze in Bad Liebenwerda

Oschätze is a district of the city of Bad Liebenwerda in the Elbe-Elster district in Brandenburg and is five kilometers south of the city.

Until its incorporation in 1993, Oschätze belonged to the Bad Liebenwerda district and, according to the city of Bad Liebenwerda, had 270 inhabitants in 2011.

history

Over time, Oschätze had different place names. The first documentary mention in 1325 referred to the place as villa Oschatzgen . In 1443 it was called Oschatzchin and in 1752 the place is mentioned as Oschätzgen . Like Oschatz, the place name is derived from osek and means something like Waldhau or Hagen .

Oschätze is a pure rural village and the originally Slavic settlement probably belonged earlier to the rule Würdenhain and later became a direct administrative village of Mühlberg . The residents of the place have always been farming and raising cattle.

In 1325, Otto von Brother Pütter, captain of the Bohemian King in Mühlberg, transferred the Holtze , a wood between Oschätze and Prieschka, to the municipality of Oschatzgen . In 1539 a chapel was named in the village and in 1686 a half-timbered church was built, which in 1844 received a new organ from the organ builder Friedrich Pfützner from Meissen .

In 1816 the place had 168 inhabitants. In 1835 there were 32 houses, 220 inhabitants with 59 horses, 296 cattle, 394 sheep, 7 goats and 131 pigs in the village. On July 25th, 1848, there was a huge conflagration in the village, with only two farmsteads and one house food being spared in the eastern half of the village. The former school building was built in 1871.

In 1908 the old half-timbered church had to be demolished and given way to a new building, which was inaugurated on September 6 of the same year. Inside you can still see a carved altar, a wooden pulpit from the 17th century and various carved figures.

In the First World War 17 and in the Second 23 people from Oschätze died.

In 1933 the volunteer fire brigade and in 1955 the LPG Thomas Müntzer was founded. In 1975/76 a consumer sales point was built. In 1988 the new kindergarten was built and in 1995 the judges' tower on the sports field.

On December 6, 1993, Oschätze was incorporated into the city of Bad Liebenwerda.

Culture and sights

The annual highlight of the place is the equestrian festival, which takes place every year in June after the equestrian club was founded in 1954 and attracts many guests from the area. Riders and couples pull through the decorated place. The members of the various equestrian clubs show their skills at the Oschätze riding arena.

Other highlights are the carnival season, the Easter bonfire and raising the maypole.
